Welcome to Appleby-in-Westmorland Town Council

The historic market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland is situated on the banks of the River Eden in beautiful countryside between the Lake District National Park and the Yorkshire Dales National Park, on the edge of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Appleby-in-Westmorland Town Council represent approximately 3,000 Appleby residents and is the third tier of local government.  There are 16 Councillors, 8 each for the Wards of Appleby and Bongate.  Councillors are elected for a term of four years.  Councillors are unpaid.  Council meetings are held in the Council Chamber at the Moot Hall and are open to the public and the press.  The Council has 9 part time employees who fulfill the Council’s statutory duties and deliver a range of services including the Tourist Information Centre and the Public Hall.

Please note that the Town Council Office and the Tourist Information Centre with be closed from 3pm on Friday 22nd December 2017 and will re open at 10am on Tuesday 2nd January 2018.
